on Harlow Street now takes the pedestrian from a full blown summer day into a scene depicting the peak of autumn A three-panel mural of autumn foliage as seen from the window of a small plane was York City Janine Davis director of Region I the New England area said the GSA renewed the arts program which had lapsed from 1966 to 1973 It fell from favor during the Lyndon Johnson Administration she said The Bangor federal building was built in 1968 at a time when no program existed why it has taken so long to identify and commission a work for Davis said The money for the painting was approved by Congress as a part of the constrction budget A National Endowment of the Arts panel consisting of members from art-related fields -identified an idea of what the art should be like They picked from a field of about 200 people Davis said whose portfolios were on hand at the central headquarters at Washington DC The panel narrowed down the field to about five people all of whom presented maquettes or models of what their finished product would be like Jacquette who described her style as dots slashes and dashes said it was teriffic to be able to do something for the state
