Faulkner. At Store No. 21 Main Stieefc March 8. 1864. tt immunity from contagion or infectiou in the open air.

Toe patient cannot be exposed to any danger under any oiyonmstaiqesof complication by other diseases, or from the temperature of the atmosphere; for if the patient is kept warm in bed by artificial means, tbe free breathing of pare frreb air will at all times keep up tbe natural animal beat. In typhus lever, complications of all kinds of tbe longs or any other organ, only render tbe free aooess of pure fresh air more neoessary. Tbe benefioial efleot of fresh air also enables the praotitioner to administer stimulants whioh the patient might otherwise be nnable to bear. Medical and Surgical entirely satisfied witb the situation or military affiire He epoke in the highest terms lof Gen. 8 ier-man'e expedition, which had given the rebellion the severest How sinoe the ovptnre ot Vicksburg.

General 8herman hts destroyed provisions and forage eoongb te subsist the rebel array from So 6 months. In one plaoe General Sherman destroyed over 82.000,000 of property: in other plaoea.hu destroyed immense stores He brought in large droves of cattle, several thousand head of mules, 8000 negroes, and over 40o prisoners with but a trifling loss injmen and material. In destroying the railroads he has released Gen McPherson's oorps from doing guard duty along the Mississippi, and restored them to so tive service. New Tom, 9th. The Tribune's army of the Potomso despatch states, that on Friday General Costar, with 600 men made a rerooDoiaaoce to Ellis Ford on the Btpidan, and found only the usual rebel pickets on the opposite bank.

A small oortion ot CtiBr tars foroe orossed, drove the enemys pickets, scouted the country several miles wi'hout meeting opposition, and returned. Well Done New Hampshire Ws spread be fore our readers tbia morniog the welcome record of the great political end moral viotory achieved in the Old Granite State It ia a most cheering result frem every point of view. As compared with tbe election of last year, it evinces decided progress for the right Then Governor Gilmore railed of enooess before the people, owing to i division of tbe Onion vote. Noe bie dear ma -rity is mujb greater than that of the combined Onion voe last year, the majorities in the Legislature are greater, sod there are important Union gains in all parts of the State Well may Gov. Gilmore be proud ot this grand popular endorsement of bis administration, and well may the who'e country do honor to the intelligent, in domitable Union men of New Usmp-bire Tbe glorious news ot tbe result of this eleotion will fill every loyal heart with joy and gladness Toe Granite State has stood as firm as her own granite hills in aupporlof the Government, and tbe loyal men have crushed the pro-alavery De mocracy under a popular mj rity which will leave them little encouragement to go into tbe Presidential campaign, and no hope of success Those who were aware of the desperate efforts made by the Copperhead leaders to oarry the State of the amount of money raised for that purpose, of the sleepless nighta and restless days ot intrigue and labor devoted to tbe oleotion by Franklin Pieice and his satellites, of the san.

guine bopea which they entertained and expressed. and of tbe uncertainty which natnrally resulted from tbe withdrawal ot a third candidate who for two years baa divided the Uoion vote of tbe State have been solicitous as to tbe resalt Tbe fsot that a United States Senator was to be elected, aod that tbe Unionista were divided opon a candidate added an element of uncertainty. And the lack ot important Union victories thus far in tbe spring oampiign has also been unfavorable. But tbe people ot New Hampshire have been true to themselves and their oountry They have dealt another blow to Copperbeadum from which it will not reoover. We have a ditiooal cause for rrjoiciog when we consider the important rel which thie New Hampshire ejection bears to the polttios of the whole country.

It is the first State eleotion of the great political oampaign cf 1864 Well aware ot this, the Democratic managers left no stone unturned to effect a revolution in tbe State. For months they have been conooo'ing their plans and pulling their wires, utterly regardless ot any wounds tby might thereby infliot on tbe cause of their oountry, and complacent over the aid and comfort they were visibly giving to the traitors in arma. But the nelarions plot has failed, to the irretrievable ignominy of its con nrivera. New Hampshire points the way in which the Preaidential eleotion will be decided, and makes it-om for Connecticut, wbicn will confirm tbe verdict on tbe first Monday of April All honor, then, to the noble sons of tbe Granite State they are worthy of their brethren in the field, and of tbe cause they are jointly serving. Oar latest intelligence by telegraph from Concord ataies that all the Republican candidates for Councillors have been elected, that nine of tbe twelve Union nominees for Senators have been chosen, and that in the House of Representatives there will be at least seventy-five Union Dental Notice.

Tbe matter was referred by the Senate to a oommittee of investigation, and the result of which is anticipated by an anthoriative statement by the Washington Republican that he expedition was planned by Gen Gillmore. Colonel John Bust commanding, re-enlisted in the field, arrived this morning at half past five, having been delayed upon the road between here and Boston The Augusta Bred and escort under General Hodsdon were in Vsiting at the depot, having watohe 3 patiently all night for the expeceJ heroes, who, on their arrival, were marobed to Camp Keyes, where eubatantial cheer was spread before them undiluted by wearisome speeches.

The material of this regiment i excellent; and on its return to the Sooth, strengthened and reorganised, it will continne the gloripus record which Maine troops have. 16, 1854, Theodore Parker made a speech which was extensively noticed by the Southern papers It traoed the consecutive steps of the slave power. We find in tbe Dayton, Ohio, Journal, full particulars of tbe riot in that oily on the day previous It appears that about twenty soldiers of the 44th Ohio Regiment went to the office of the Dayton Empire and began to destroy tbe printing materials of that establishment, which is a secesh concern. Several prominent Union citizens, hearing ot tbe demonstration at once repaired to tbe spot, and after much exertion in paci fying tbe rioters, and induced them to disperse. The rioters retired as for as the court house, where their captaiu, named B.dger, who is said to have been intoxicated, addressed them in an inflammatory mannei. Tbe fire belts were rung, and a great crowd assembled. The gentlemen who had been instrumental in staying tbe destruction of the Empire tffice, again appeared as peacemakers, and addressed tbe crowd in a judicious manner, and evidently with excellent effect, bat while one of them was telling the soldiers that Government bad oalled them into service to suppress tbe rebellion and to eostain and defend the constitution and the laws, a notorions copperhead poliuciao in tbe assemblage, named Maxwell, oritd oat, and the nigger, wbiob at once aroused tbe indignation of the they made a rush to ateoge the unprovoked in suit.

Maxweii retreated, discharging a piato) wounding a soldier severely in one band. Firing then became frequent, and suddenly a number men iu citizens cloibes spread tbemsslvts like a line of skirmishers across several ot the streetp, and opened a reckless and wanton fire with revolvers directly into the defeocelesacrowd of men, women aod children One man.Daniel Carle, a peaceful spec'ator, was killed, a soldier was dangerously wounded, and several other persons were injured. Tbe firing lasted only two or three minutes, but the exoi'ement was intense. The Mayor ordered all drinking places to be closed, and Colonel Lowe, in responie to a requi St of tbe citixens, ordered out several companies of the 2d militia regiment to preserve tbe peace At sunset all waa quiet Captain Badger was arrested and gave bonds to appear for trial. Tbe Journal says tbe firing was all done by Copperheads, and that tbe responsibility for the riot and loss of life rests with them.

The man who waa killed leaves a wife and eleven children. Burning Water. The New York Tribune teports lbat an invention has lately been tbatle by which heat is produced by tbe decomposition of water. The Tribune speaks as follows of the invention: Tbe water, contained in a boiler on the top of the stove or furnace, may be supplied daily as it uiuuliy is. to a boiler placid there to maintain proper humidity in the atmosphere, or by feed pipe from a main or reservoir wherever (as in New York) a supply may thus be had An ordinary stove will consume from three to four gallons per day; and this is conveyed, tbroagh a pipe on the inner surface of the stove, but avoiding direoteontaot with tbe coal or fuel, till it ia emitted in the form of superheated steam, at the bottom of the fire, where it is decomposed oy the oontact into hydrogen and carbonic acid gas, wbioh instantly combine afresh, producing carbonic oxide, which undergoes a etill farther combination or combustion on being presented to tbe sir, with a large development of oalorie or heat at eaoh sooooee sive stage or combination.

The inventor, ot course, does not pretend to dispense with oa bon or luel by his invention, but to economize iu me to the last degree. In other wordi instead of allowing half the ear-boa to escape in tbe form of oarbonio arid, he oonsumed tbef whole of it, leaving nothing to escape as smoke but water, and perhaps a little ammonia He thus reduces the consumption of carbon or ooal one half, while maintaining more temperate end rqueble combustion, with a steadier and more beaitbtul Tbe atmosphere of apart men ts or Oases heeled by bis stovte or lurneoes to more blend and summer like ban any other proersi of combustion oaa supply. And, as tbe pro ness to by no means expensive. adding peshspe owe third to the cost of estveedsatott to ttoeo flCnfpTMC. e.
